The Duke of Edinburgh scheme is an exciting and rewarding opportunity that we are proud to offer our pupils.

DofE Award

At Ermysted’s we take pride in being one of the largest DofE school organisations in the North of England. In 2024 we supported 112 pupils throughout all levels (Bronze, Silver & Gold) in working towards their awards.

The award is a fantastic opportunity for young people to push themselves toward achieving really rewarding goals. There are four sections for each award: Volunteering; Physical; Skill: and the Expedition (Gold participants need to complete a four day residential component as well).

Weekly commitment is required over a number of months and pupils report how rewarding the process is. In particular, through the Volunteering section, participants must give back to their community – this can be an extremely satisfying experience.

The Expeditions are what they really look forward to, and at Ermysted’s we use Lupine Adventure to provide expertly trained supervisors/assessors for each group. After a practice day our Bronze participants undertake a two day expedition. Our Silver participants undertake a 2 ½ day practice followed by a 3 day expedition. Our Gold participants undertake a 3 day practice followed by a 4 day expedition. Our expeditions are mostly in the Yorkshire Dales, however we run our Gold Assessed expedition in the Lake District. Although challenging, this four day expedition always delivers a fantastic and unique experience for the participants.
