Music is an integral and highly-valued part of life at Ermysted’s, and we are proud to offer many exciting opportunities to our pupils.

Music

Our extra-curricular groups meet on a weekly basis, either at lunchtimes or after school and are directed by Mrs Evans and Dr Cloke, our music teachers, and experienced visiting music specialists. We offer groups for all abilities, in a variety of styles and genres.

Our musicians are encouraged to take part in all school productions. As well as annual Christmas, Spring and Summer Concerts, we stage dramatic productions (alternating with SGHS), which run over two evenings in the Spring Term. Our ‘Teatime’ concerts give GCSE, A-level students, soloists and smaller groups the opportunity to perform publicly. Our ‘Cabaret Evening’ gives more senior members of the school the opportunity to perform in a more casual setting.

Every few years, many of our ensembles tour to Simbach in Germany to perform in concerts and with our twinned school there.

The hugely successful Swing Band performs at school and other local venues often raising money for charity in the process. The annual programme includes termly concerts and local community events.

The Orchestra rehearses jointly with Skipton Girls’ High School, giving musicians of all ages the chance to play in a larger group. Pupils playing orchestral instruments from Grade 1-2 upwards are welcome to join us. This ensemble is also open to staff and parents.

The Choir welcomes all pupils, parents and members of staff. They sing a wide variety of repertoire, from Latin texts to pop favourites.

The Brass and Woodwind Group take part in festive events such as the school Christmas Concert and the Grassington Dickensian Festival, as well as spreading cheer to shoppers at local stores.

The Training Band is open to Lower School pupils and welcomes those who may not have played in a band before but are keen to give it a go!

The String Ensemble, aimed at string players Grade 3 and above who seeks to develop their ensemble skills. They perform regularly in school concerts and at external competitions and events.

“Being a part of music groups has helped me to build close friendships with students in different years.
